THE GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST (GTT)

Most women, between 24 and 28 weeks into their pregnancy will require a Diabetes screening test called the “GTT” or “Glucose Tolerance Test”. This test is performed after fasting for 8hrs and involves drinking a glucose drink, and having 3 blood tests over the course of 2hrs. If the test is positive for Gestational Diabetes, a repeat test will be performed 6 weeks after the baby arrives to ensure that the Diabetes has resolved. Historically, this test has been performed at pathology centres and not enjoyed by most but….women no longer need to dread their Glucose Tolerance Test!       

THE GTT EXPERIENCE

Maternal and Infant Wellbeing Melbourne offers women the opportunity to attend our beautiful, serene clinic, have their blood test performed by a member of our highly skilled team, and enjoy a massage or facial and spectacular Parkville views, while waiting for their blood tests. At the conclusion of their test, they are offered a cup of tea or coffee and a snack.  Childcare can be made available for post-partum GTTs upon request.
